FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
The following information addresses many of the "Frequently Asked Questions" we have received over the years.
A. Give it a couple weeks to mellow out. All perms relax and depending on the hair type and condition some perms must be curlier in the beginning.
Q. My perm didn't stay, why?
A. There are many resaons why this can happen. Propper at home care is a MUST. One can literally wash the curl right out of their hair with a high PH detergent shampoo quite quickly. You must use only use what your stylist suggests. It could also be that the curl was not tight enough to begin with. Some clients are afraid of too much curl, but since almost all perms relax you need enough curl to start with. Another issue is Birth Control medications. Believe it or not, they can affect the hairs ability to take curl well. That is why we do not try to perm hair when women are pregnant, the hormones are too high.
Q. My hair permed well with the last perm, but not this one. How come?
A. Hair is a variable. Meaning it changes all the time. When it's a female client, there are hormone fluctuations that can change the hairs ability to curl. Look at the previous answer for more information.
Q. My hair is " frizzy and dry "! Can you help?
A. Yes we can. The first thing is to make sure the propper at home care is being used. The same "over-the-counter" products that can relax a perm out of the hair can also in a very short time "fry" it. The correct conditioning is a must. Your hair texture can also lend itself to look frizzy. The finer the texture hair is the more likely it can look frizzy. The answer, besides propper care, are the correct leave-in treatments.
Q. Why isn't my hair color holding?
A. There are many reasons why hair color will fade. We'll touch on just a few here:
1) Using any hair care products from "over - the - counter " sources will fade your color.
2) Hair not in good enough condition to hold color.
3) Not enough protection from the sun.
Q. Why is the cost for my same color different from my last appointment ?
A. There could have been more time between appointments and more color product was needed. Or, your color had faded and required more color product to freshen it up.
Q. I had my hair color darkened back to it's natural color and now I have to do it again, why?
A. Seldom is one application going to hold over previously lightened hair. The hair is porus and the hair structure damaged so color has little to "hold" on to.
Q. Why was my corrective color so expensive !?!
A. " Corrective" color is not easy and takes a stylist with experience to do the work. It can be very challenging to deal with all the variables corrective work can entail. There can be pre conditioning needed, or three times the amount of color product used compared to normal coloring services and it can take three times as long as a normal service.
Q. The color looked great when I left, but at home it doesn't, why ?
A. Be sure not to judge your color in your bathroom light. Or any other artificial light for that matter. Only natural or full spectrum light ( which we have both at Tangles) will give you a true tone.
Q. It's not the color I expected, I brought in a picture ! Now what?
A. We do our best to explain why we may or may not be able to achieve the exact color. You are an idividual with your own skin coloring and we are starting with your natural color that could be vastly different from the starting color of a photo. These all factor in to the results you can get. Also, sometimes when you actually see the color on yourself it can be hard to be objective at first.
A. There are many reasons why a cut won't work for you. We do our best to explain why and guide you in the right direction. Head structure, hair type and density , overall health of hair is all part of a haircut. These are some of the determing factors in choosing the propper cut.
Q. Why did this haircut cost me more than my last one?
A. Not all haircuts are created equal. Some are much more difficult or time consuming to do.
Q. I hate my cut ! What are you going to do about it?
A. We first have to determin WHY you hate it and continue from there. For some people visualizing
oneself in a different look can be very stressful. Or, a picture was brought in and the stylist was not allowed to actually cut enough to achieve the look. Sometimes if the propper finishing work is not done at home it looks completely different.
Q.My haircut didn't grow out well, why?
A. Haircuts aren't meant to " grow out ". That being said, some do better than others. The reason is that hair doesn't grow evenly. The left side grows faster on almost everyone and the perimeter grows faster than the mid-sections. That's why 4 to 6 weeks is about as long as the cut will remain balanced.
